Attorney General Hon. Prof. Githu Muigai In A Riara Public Lecture And Strategic Plan Launch

On August 13th 2013, Riara Law School hosted three exciting academic events – a legal education colloquium, the launch of the Riara Law School Strategic Plan, 2013-2017 and a public lecture. The events featured Hon. Prof. Githu Muigai, Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya as the Key speaker and others like Professor James Gathii, Professor of Law and Wing-Tat Lee Chair in International Law at the University of  Loyola Chicago School of Law, Mr. Apollo Mboya, Chief Executive Officer of the Law Society of Kenya, and Mr. Eric Kibet.

During his speech The Attorney General thanked Mr. Gachukia and Dr. Gachukia for their pioneering work in the area of education while recognized the vision of Professor Kiarie Mwaura, for Riara University and thanking Professor Kang’ara, for representing a generation of young Kenyan scholars, who have not only excelled internationally but have returned to Kenya to share the benefits of their education.

The Attorney General also expressed similar sentiments of Hon. Justice Professor Joel Ngugi, Judge of the High Court of Kenya & Director of the Judiciary Training Institute. Further, he noted that Professor Gathii, who was his research assistant in his younger years, is now one of the most distinguished international trade specialists. Lastly, he appreciated Ms. Connie Ngondi, for being a distinguished academic and Mr. Apollo Mboya, for demonstrating a commitment to uplifting standards of legal practice in Kenya.


Away from heartfelt sentiments and words of effort recognition towards his peers, the AG’s speech also touched on Challenges in quality of lawyers, The Parallel system, Cheap regional universities, Lack of specialization by lecturers and also pointing out Students are not reading original material (read more Hon. The  ceremonial official launch of the Riara Law School Strategic Plan, 2013-2017, which was presided over by Professor Gathii and Public Lecture in Riara University also by Professor James Gathii marked the end of the event.
